Music has been a part of my life since I was five years old. I participate in a lot of musical projects, but that mania feels right to me. I can’t stop creating, so why try? As a performer, my main gig is fronting hard rock band The Dead Deads, but I also love my dreamy and driving Coinship, playing AlienA in prog super-group In Continuum, and having fun backing-up artists on keys, guitars and vocals, or performing as a singer-songwriter. I love every moment of sharing music with an audience. My favorite artists are the ones that keep their fans guessing. They Might Be Giants, Neil Young, Mark Lanegan, Kendrick Lamar, Bjork and Beck are some of my heroes for their rejection of the trends in favor of finding new voices to share strong stories.
I enjoy making music for kids. A lot. I knew the names Howard Ashman and Alan Menken when I was 11 years old and I’d “correct” parts of Disney songs I thought could be “better.” Lookout, world. I’ve since been humbled by the sheer magnitude of brilliant folks working in animation and am beyond honored to have finally found my place helping to create quality children’s programming and relatable, memorable songs.
Even though running Cake In Space with my husband Matt Mahaffey keeps me very busy, I still love working with producers, engineers and song-writers on custom song creation, pet projects and songs for licensing or demos, so don’t be afraid to holler at me. If you are interested in writing with me or hiring me for demos, email me at tish@cakeinspace.com and I’ll get back to you asap! I like busy.
